Frequently asked questions

How many tombstones do I need for a yard graveyard?

Six to twelve for a typical front yard. Less than six reads as scattered. More than twelve overwhelms most lots. Vary heights, group in clusters, leave 18 to 24 inches between each stone.

How do I make plastic tombstones look more realistic?

Spray them with matte gray primer, then dry-brush black, brown, and moss-green acrylics into the carved letters and edges. Add a few patches of artificial moss with hot glue. Stake them at slight angles, never perfectly vertical.

What goes well with tombstones?

A fog machine for ground-level fog, low orange or purple uplighting from the front of each stone, scattered fall leaves on the ground, and one or two crouched skeleton props between the stones. Avoid spider webs on tombstones, they fight the scene.
