How many candles is right for a room?
Five to nine for a styled living room or dining room, clustered in two or three groupings of three to five candles each. Single candles look lonely. Clusters in odd numbers always work.
Real candles or flameless?
Real for atmosphere, flameless for safety. Use real candles only on surfaces with no kids, pets, or trailing fabric within reach. Use flameless tapers and pillars everywhere else, the best ones now have realistic flicker indistinguishable from real flames.
What candle colors work for Halloween?
Black tapers, deep aubergine pillars, ivory or beeswax for warmth, and brass or amber vessels for the candle holder. Skip neon orange wax, it reads novelty. Tonal candles in tasteful holders always win.
